A Businesses Who Care National Sponsor

Organization Overview
About Us
A) Mission Statement Emphasizing the principles of spiritual recovery, our mission provides intensive and comprehensive treatment programs for individuals who suffer from substance-abuse as well as those adversely affected by their disease. This is achieved with a well-structured, outpatient, substance-abuse education and treatment program that is licensed by the Colorado Department of Human Services Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division. B) Summary of Organizational History Formerly the Addiction Treatment Center, The Next Step, a Place Where Families Recover, was born under the auspices of Longmont United Hospital as the Addiction Treatment Services. In 2002, the hospital ended this program to a focus on detoxification, which inspired our founder and President to form an independent nonprofit. The Next Step then refined its mission to meet the community’s need for an effective and affordable outpatient substance-abuse treatment program for individuals and families. Proud to be an integral and vital part of the Greater Boulder County health-service community, over the past 6 years we have provided services to residents of County and Weld County: 349 clients with our Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Treatment Program, 251 individuals with our DUI Education & Therapy, 247 people with Family Therapy, and over 1,600 residents with public education and free telephone and face-to-face consultations. In 2007, Family Therapy clientele grew 20%. C) Current Program The Next Step, A Place Where Families Recover, offers programs for Front Range residents and their families. People struggling with addiction usually enter the IOP Program for first-time treatment or as a transition from inpatient treatment. Other individuals take advantage of our services as a result of relapsing into their addictive behavior following a period of non-addictive living. This program consists of 3 phases and is structured to be comprehensive and specific for each client. Phase I focuses on issues related to addiction and basic recovery education. Phase II focuses on transitioning to a unique and personal recovery program. Clients then move into Phase III, which focuses on continuing recovery and may include monitoring future substance-abuse. Applying a bio-psycho-social-spiritual model within the context of 12-Step principles, The Next Step has also stressed the importance of recovery for the entire family, not just those addicted to alcohol and/or drugs, and therapeutic models based on spiritual recovery have enjoyed remarkable success. Often the individual abusing substances does not see the need for help. While this denial continues, family members must endure the many consequences of living with or associating with an individual who refuses help. Designed to educate individuals intimate with someone who is abusing substances, the Family Therapy Program has grown significantly, and the organization offers a variety of therapeutic options for families, including Couples’ Therapy.
Who We Are
The Next Step is a progressive addiction treatment center that offers affordable fees, discounts for those without insurance, and substantial aid for low-income families and individuals.

What Sets Us Apart
We are the only internsive out-patient program in Boulder County that emphasizes spiritual recovery and is long-term (6 months--1 year).
Objectives for This Fiscal Year
On an organizational level, we have 6 new goals: 1) to build a stronger Development Team; 2) to strengthen and develop our Board of Directors; 3) to expand our community outreach campaign by doubling the number of people we serve over the next 12 months; 4) to maintain our involement with St. Vrain School District's Alternatives to Suspension, an educational program that stresses the need for prevention as well as treatment for at-risk youth; 5) to expand our support groups for adolescent who need support with personal recovery or family addiction; and 6) to garner matching funds to convert the CAP Fund into an endowment so that we do not have to rely so much on charitable fund-raising to support low-income clients.
Recent Accomplishments
In 2007, we recruited an educator with the St. Vrain School District to join our Board of Directors, and she open the door for our newly hired bilingual therapist (our 1st one) to present an ongoing series of educational presentations that focus on the prevention, recognition and treatment of substance-abuse.
