I teach 3rd grade and every year, my entire class moves on to the next grade much more aware of animal rights issues than they ever imagined. They may also incidentally learn some math and reading, but that's beside the point. (ok, that's just a joke, but I do make sure they have a well rounded view of the world). I am also a regular volunteer at In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue. I assist with animal care, welcome visitors, conduct group tours, and the best part is that I am part of the training team for the big cats. We train them to perform behaviors that allow us to conduct medical procedures with no stress or anesthesia, in many cases. The training is done solely with positive reinforcement, and the cats really seem to enjoy their sessions. It's simply awesome to have a 500 pound tiger come running up to the fence when they hear your voice calling their name.
