A Businesses Who Care National Sponsor

Overview
About Me:
I am a mom to two sons and have been a international flight attendant for over 31 years. In 2005 I lost my healthy, active 16 year old son while waiting for a liver transplant. He had been diagnosed with unexplained liver failure almost five months earlier. In less than a week he was in critical condition with 24 hours to live. We had a miracle occur when we receive a liver in time to save his life. But unfortunately when he once again needed a liver he passed away while waiting on the transplant list. Their are no words to describe the pain of watching your child die and knowing you were relying on a stranger to say his life. This changed my family's life forever and has caused me to become a non-stop advocate with a huge passion for organ, eye and tissue donation education and awareness. Spending time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit also opened my eyes to importance of helping children and families dealing with serious illnesses.

Causes And Collaboration
About My Causes
In 2006 I founded the William Rollings McMahon Organ Donation Educational Foundation in my son's memory. It is a 501(c)(3) foundation that works especially with teens to encourage them to talk to their family and friends about organ donation. I am the Executive Director and work with many of the students in our area and throughout the US. I also work closely with Lifequest Organ Recovery Services, as well as the Southeast Tissue Alliance and Florida Tissue Services. All as a volunteer sharing my story. Please check out our non-profit MTDN page donate4william for more information.

Other Ways I Make a Difference in My Community and the World
After seeing an 81% increase in actual organ donors cases in our area for the last three years I am excited and inspired to continue my campaign. I have also been working hard to get an online organ donation registry for the state of Florida. I'm very excited to say that it should be implemented in the next few months. This will allow Floridians to sign up to be an organ door online and not have to go to the DMV to sign up.
Other Ways I Would Like to Make a Difference
I would love to see an 100% increase in organ donors in our community and the world. In some European countries you are automatically a donor unless you sign up not to be. Needless to say there are no waiting list in these countries.

The year my son William passed away 2.5 million deaths were reported in the US. I honestly believe that had this information about organ donation been more readily available many of this people would have become organ donors. And today William would be on his way to achieve his dream job of designing rockets for NASA. We just needed ONE liver.

PLEASE talk to your family today about organ donation before a tragedy occurs. Organ donation will affect all of us at one time in our lives. Whether our family is asked about being an donor or if you might find yourself in the position to need a transplant. While I believe this is a personal decision it deserves an educated answer. But know that by choosing to be an organ, eye and tissue donor you can save or help over 100 lives. You can make a BIG difference!
People I Would Like to Collaborate With
People that are interested in helping spread organ, eye and tissue donation awareness. As well as the need to donate blood and bone marrow. I also feel passionate about trying to make the world a better place for critically ill children and their families.
Projects I Would Like to Collaborate on
I am open to any projects for the above causes. One of the benefits of working for an airline is free travel. This is a wonderful way for me to work with people through out the world. I am always excited to be able to share my story and information on any project or event.
