About Us
Hands Across Nations (HAN) began as a friendship and has developed into a team of people who are dedicated to “sharing the love of Christ in practical ways”. What began as short term mission trips to Uganda in 2001, 2002, and 2003, has become a long term working relationship between a team in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, and a team in Northern Uganda. Northern Uganda has suffered for over 18 years from raids of “The Lord’s Resistance Army”.
This “army” is a band of rebels who attack villages, killing adults and abducting children to be used as soldiers and equipment carriers for the “army”. The result has had a devastating effect on the economy and every day lives of the Northern Ugandan people. Children are orphaned everyday from the rebel raids and HIV related deaths of their parents.
Working closely with trustworthy Ugandans who understand the problems and the culture, HAN is making a difference. We invite you to join with us in this endeavor.
We are going through some exciting times which has required us to update our website. We apologize for the construction, but please don’t let it stop you from taking a look around and seeing all the wonderful things that are going on currently!
Who We Are
Hands Across Nations didn’t start with a big vision or even a great idea… it was born in the midst of devastation and was started out of a necessity to care for the needs of the thousands of unheard voices ravaged by war. In 2001, what started as a missionary trip became a life altering journey for Carolyn Kurowski, a founding member of the charity. After witnessing the suffering in Uganda, the individuals with no access to doctors, no clean water, and no protection from rebels, her faith and hope could not be quelled. After that first trip, Carolyn returned to the U.S. and enrolled the hearts of countless others to aid these devastated areas.
In 2003, she was determined to not only meet needs of those in the region, but to also provide hope and let them know they are not alone. She stayed for two and a half months and brought mobile health clinics, education, and food supplies. Four days after leaving, the village was attacked by rebels, killing 53 people, many of whom she helped and had grown to love. The survivors made their way to displacement camps outside of UNICEF’s reach, and within weeks another attack almost wiped out the entire village – more than 500 men, women and children were killed. Hearing this news, Carolyn realized that a larger relief effort was needed…Hands Across Nations would be the company to rise and meet these needs.

Our Programs
CLEAN SPRINGS CAMPAIGN
The Clean Springs Campaign provides fresh clean water to hundreds and sometimes even thousands of people per day, per spring. For just over $1200, we will dedicate a spring in your name or your company’s name which will provide clean water to drink and bathe in rather than watering holes and muddy streams that animals drink from. In providing these protected springs, it drastically reduces diseases like malaria and typhoid, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical costs. Now is the time for you personally to supply life-sustaining water to thousands of people.
TREADLING MACHINE CAMPAIGN
Between the wide spread death from AIDS and the LRA killing off many of the men, women have been left to care for their own kids as well as relatives, without any job skills or ways of earning money. The Treadling Machine Campaign is one of our answers to this dilemma and has been started to provide women with both access to machines and training on them to earn a living and create viable income, eventually earning enough to buy their own machine. For as little as $125, you could change the financial future for several women and their families.
Farming & Agricultural Campaign
Our second systemic answer to helping create viable income as well as provide immediate food is in the area of farming. We are providing plots of land, seeds, tools, pairs of oxen, and training on what types of crops to plant and when, how to prepare the soil, and animal husbandry. To provide this, which will feed 3 villages and 1 town costs an initial investment of only $2951. It has been financially successful enough that towns are able to sponsor other towns and assist with their initial investment fees to further spread the positive impact.
Finish Church and Regional Community Center
The church’s is externally completed and offers a place for people to worship as well as a place to learn and meet together. However, internally, the floor is still dirt, and the internal walls are complete. Over $25,000 has gone into this building already, and we only have $15,000 more to have it completed. Please consider donating today and providing a safe haven and sanctuary for these people. We need your help!
