Organization Overview
About Us
Find the Children is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the recovery of missing children and to the prevention of the abuse and endangerment of children. Find the Children assists families searching for missing children by helping them to access local and federal law enforcement, advising them on the appropriate legal documents, and connecting them with other non-profit organizations or community resources that may help them in their search for their children. We educate parents and children on child safety. Since 1983, Find the Children has assisted thousands of families by distributing flyers with missing children's pictures on them through our volunteer flyer distribution program and on our stickers which are placed on vending machines. Our photo partner program sends children's pictures to newspapers and periodicals all over the country. One out of seven missing children is found through someone seeing their photo and reporting it to law enforcement. Click here for more information on these programs. We seek to enlighten the media and the public by providing current information concerning the missing children issue, and we support legislation providing positive action to ensure our children's safety.
Our Organization's Mission
Find the Children (FTC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the recovery of missing children and the prevention of child abduction.
Who We Serve
We provide support and guidance to families of missing children during difficult search and recovery process. Find the Children works closely with local and federal law enforcement and justice departments to ensure that child abduction laws are properly understood and maintained.
Our Programs
THE KID INTUITION PROGRAM is designed to increase a child's ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. Since 1999, we have presented in more than 400 elementary schools.

PARENT PREVENTION PROGRAM strives to educate parents about child abduction in a separate parent seminar. The discussion forum explains the facts about stranger abduction, and teaches parents how to appropriately discuss the matter with their children. FTC also discusses the very important topic of parental abduction. In the parent seminar, we educate parents on how to avoid family abductions, how to recognize warning signs, and what to do if it ever occurs. FTC has presented over 324 parent seminars.

COMMUNITY EVENTS PROGRAM throughout the year, Find the
Children attends community health fairs and events to educate the general public about child abduction and provide them with information about our organization. Our information booth allows kids the opportunity to “test their knowledge” at our stranger safety station and parents can read up on safety tips for the whole family. Our staff and volunteers are ready to answer questions about child abduction and inform the community of
the FREE services that we provide to families and schools.

REUNIFICATION PROGRAM works with various mental health agencies and arranges for post-recovery therapy. Find the Children reunification program helps families through the difficult recovery process after a child has been returned home. FTC has served 783 children and their families through the recovery and reunification process.

CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM helps searching families. FTC case worker advises families as to the necessary legal procedure for searching for their child(ren). FTC is able to share the families concern to other agencies involved in the search and recovery. In 1996, FTC also began working with the Department of Children and Family Services to find children that had been abducted from foster care. FTC is currently involved in 1160 abduction case.

FLYER DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM creates photo-fliers of missing children through our Critical Reach software, which are then used and distributed in an abduction bulletin to law enforcement, media, businesses, schools as well as by our nationwide corps of volunteers.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM is comprised of approximately 130 volunteers throughout the United States. Volunteers post flyers of missing children in diverse locations, such as retail stores, gas stations, libraries, schools, and recreational centers. Flyer distribution packets are sent on a monthly basis and on occasion, we will send out emergency mailings.

VENDOR PROGRAM provides vending machine
owners the opportunity to support the search
for missing children through the Vendor Program.
Participating vendors post photo-stickers
of missing children on their machines. We
welcome vendors from across the nation as the
broad dispersal of a missing child’s photo greatly
increases the chances of recovery.

Projects We Need Help On
Expanding our Kid Intuition educational program nation wide.
This program is designed to increase the children’s ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. The material is presented in individual classrooms in order to adjust the tone and content for each grade and maturity level. It is NOT playtime for the students, but a valuable life-skill lesson taught in a kid-friendly manner. We aim to empower and educate the students, rather than frighten them.
Our presentations are available in Spanish and English. Each child receives a free activity book in either language which will help reinforce the lessons we teach and facilitate this important discussion with their parents. Teachers will also receive a Lesson Plan packet that explains how to follow-up on these concepts throughout the school year.

Skills We Would Like to Share
Our trained speakers teach the students of all grades:
For students in K-3:

* The importance of knowing your full name, parents’ names, phone number and address

For students in grades 4-6, we also introduce basic online safety rules, such as:

* People you meet online are still strangers
* Never share personal information online
* Use safe screen names
* Never meet an online stranger in person
